In breaking news, the Laureate Language Buddy team from Australia have been announced as winners of the global Laureate Innovation Competition!

A big congratulations to Fabi Ramos (Learning and Academic Skills Lecturer Brisbane), Caroline Spaans (PM Learning and Academic Skills, Sydney), Dimi Aidinlis (PM ELICOS, Sydney) and Anya Kilbey (Lecturer, Public Relations, Business Faculty, Sydney).

The Innovation Competition, modeled on the show Shark Tank, invited staff globally to pitch their creative ideas. The ideas were to be innovative, include technology in a “forward-thinking” way, scalable and applicable to institutions across the Laureate global network, and needed to have a “positive exponential impact on Laureate efficiency, academic outcomes and/or revenue growth”.

The Australia team have taken out the Innovation Competition for their idea: The Laureate Language Buddy. The Laureate Language Buddy is an app that will connect Laureate students, faculty or staff seeking to learn another language and facilitate peer-to-peer learning. For example, if you are an English speaker hoping to learn Spanish, you will be connected to a Spanish speaker hoping to learn English, and connect with them in a way that helps both parties learn and also share resources and knowledge. At this link you can view their finalist video for The Laureate Language Buddy.

Announcing the Laureate Language Buddy as winner, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Laureate International Universities, Doug Becker said, "The selection committee was honored to review many worthy ideas, many of which are already benefitting our institutions and students. We saw potential and creativity in all of them, and had to make many tough decisions to get to our finalist pool, and eventually, our winner. Your idea was appealing to us because of its scalability and novelty, as nothing like this is currently being done in our network."

The Laureate Language Buddy team will receive support from the Laureate Network Office on the development of this product.

A big congratulations to the team for this tremendous achievement!
