| Aimee Rootes
Graduate, Advanced Diploma Business (Marketing)
major in Event Management
Aimee’s thoughts on her time at APM are below:
- What made you choose to study at APM?
APM offered the business approach to event management, rather
than the hospitality side. They offered a range of subjects
and topics that were directly linked to event management.
APM also offered a six month internship where I could gain
experience and learn first hand about the things that I
would be learning……..and it wasn’t in
Dubbo!
- What were you doing previously to studying at
APM?
Completing my HSC.
- What did you enjoy about the course you studied?
The subjects were all very practical. You had alot of creative
licence with your assignments and the smaller classes meant
you were able to have one on one meetings and tutoring with
the lecturers.
- What was your goal when you enrolled at APM?
To survive a year in Sydney, graduate with a distinction
average and to be employed within 3 months of graduating.
- What is your current job title, company name and
job description?
I am the Events Coordinator at a conference and publications
company. My role involves coordinating the logistics of
each conference from delegate registration, speaker liaison,
venue and supplier coordination through to post event administration.
- Describe what your current role involves?
My job involves managing the delegate registration process,
liaising with speakers and delegates and also running the
event onsite.
- How did you find your current job?
The APM website! All in alphabetical order and so easy to
look through!
- What were the most successful aspects of the APM
course?
The assignments where I was able to invent my own company
and products!
- What advice do you have for other APM students
hoping to break into your field?
Experience! Get as much of it as you can!
- Did you find it easy or hard to get a job after
you graduated?
I found it relatively easy. I applied for two jobs before
Christmas and I had interviews for them both. I chose this
job as it was going to be more hands on. I have been trained
in all aspects of event management and I am now running
my own events.
- What other career goals or aspirations do you
have?
I would love to move into large music events and festivals
sometime in the future. I think that would be an awesome
job!
- What other initiatives have you taken to help
your career?
Show initiative to learn new things, work hard, asked a
lot of questions, always contributing to the teams efforts
and showed a lot of dedication to my job.
