Brendan Magill
Graduate, Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing) major in Sport Marketing

Brendan's thoughts on his time at APM are below:

  1. What made you choose to study at APM?

The specific sports related subject and the internship opportunity.

  2. What were you doing previously to studying at APM?

I was working at a Mercedes-Benz dealership on the Northern Beaches as a new car sales consultant.

  3. What did you enjoy about the course you studied?

It was good to reinforce things that I thought I already knew and it also gave me a lot of new marketing and business knowledge. The lecturers were great and were always there to help us get the best possible marks that we could and make the experience fun and rewarding.

  4. What was your goal when you enrolled at APM?

I wanted to work for the Wests Tigers Rugby League Club.

  5. What is your current job title, company name and job description?

I am a Sponsorship Executive at the Wests Tigers Rugby League Club.

  6. Describe what your current role involves?

My role involves me servicing an existing database of sponsors, sourcing new sponsors, event and game day assistance and general marketing of the club.

  7. How did you find your current job?

It was my intern company while studying at APM and they offered me the position whilst I was studying and held the job for me until I finished my course.

  8. What were the most successful aspects of the APM courses?

The internship program and the access that you have to the lecturers in small classes.

  9. What advice do you have for other APM students hoping to break into your field?

You don't always have to be the smartest person to get an opportunity but you have to sell yourself and be confident in what you do. No employer expects you to know everything but you need to be committed to learning and always looking objectively at yourself. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there.

  10. Did you find it easy or hard to get a job after you graduated?

I was lucky one in that it was already lined up for me before I finished my studies.

  11. What other career goals or aspirations do you have?

Right now it is about consolidating what I do in my current role and then looking for other opportunities within the company or the NRL to further my career in Marketing/Management.

  12. What other initiatives have you taken to help your career?

I have recently enrolled in a Bachelor of Business degree through Open Universities so that I can finish my degree. I am also looking at short courses and seminars that relate directly to sponsorship so that I can consolidate where I am right now.
