Graduate, Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing) major in Advertising
Josh's thoughts on his time at APM are below:
- What made you choose to study at APM?
The length of the coarse was a big attraction for me. To study full time for only one year instead of three and still get to where I am today was a major drawcard. Plus the short length of the course allowed me to really work hard and focus for the whole time. Not to mention having a lot of fun along the way! The internship was also very attractive when I was choosing a college as were the great reports I had heard from past students.
- What were you doing previously to studying at
APM?
I was actually working as a concreter while I was persuing a professional rugby league career for two years. Clearly the rugby league didn't turn out as planned but I love my new career!
- What did you enjoy about the course you studied?
I made so many great new friends - both students and lecturers. I also really enjoyed the hands on approach in lessons. Beats essays and textbooks any day.
- What was your goal when you enrolled at APM?
To complete the coarse with a distinction average and find a job at the completion of my course.
- What is your current job title, company name and
job description?
I am an Account Executive at Brave New World Communications. I work on the Kia Motors account. I manage and assist on the day-to-day running of the agencies largest account.
- Describe what your current role involves?
My current role includes managing work in progress documents and financial management. I assisting my team in running large integrated campaigns that include TV, press, print, online and point of sale. I also run the week-to-week classifieds press campaign, build the client relationship and more.
- How did you find your current job?
It was my internship company.
- What were the most successful aspects of the APM
courses?
I achieved both of my course goals, which were to finish with a distinction average and find a job at the completion of the course. I also received the AFA industry award at the graduation.
- What advice do you have for other APM students
hoping to break into your field?
The APM course presents so many great opportunities for students so my advice would be to make the most of all of them. Be confident and back yourself.
- Did you find it easy or hard to get a job after
you graduated?
Easy. My internship offered me a job before I had completed my course so I came back to the new year with a brand new job.
- What other career goals or aspirations do you
have?
I would like to work my way up in my current agency and help them grow. Past that I would love to one-day work in one of the big international agencies on a very large account.
- What other initiatives have you taken to help
your career?
I am very lucky to work with a lot of very experienced and talented people at my current agency so at the moment I am just learning from them as much as I possibly can. It's heads down - bums up!
