| Loren Revell-Karutz
Graduate, Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing)
major in Event Management
Loren’s thoughts on her time at APM are below:
- What made you choose to study at APM?
The internship looked like (and was) a fantastic opportunity
and volunteer roles were endless.
- What were you doing previously to studying at
APM?
Attending high school, completing my HSC and working
part time.
- What did you enjoy about the course you studied?
The internship/work experience component. It linked everything
we had studied in class to actual real life events.
- What was your goal when you enrolled at APM?
To graduate and to get a excellent job that allowed me to
grow within the industry and move closer to owning my own
company.
- What is your current job title, company name and
job description?
Project Coordinator, George P Johnson.
- Describe what your current role involves?
I manage all the small events around Australia and New Zealand
for IBM. I organise venues, food and beverage, engage in
much liaising directly with the clients around Australia
and New Zealand, designing and producing materials, setting
up websites and helping with on-site production on the day.
I work with a wonderful team who have taught me so much
and the on-site experience is invaluable.
- What were the most successful aspects of the APM
course?
The internship! I couldn’t do my job now if I did
not have the conferencing experience I obtained through
those six months.
- What advice do you have for other APM students
hoping to break into your field?
Be persistent and positive. Don’t let one small glitch
hold you back. I had to wait until one week before interns
started in August to finally find a company that could take
me on, and it was the best decision I ever made.
- Did you find it easy or hard to get a job after
you graduated?
Easy, I was lucky enough to be nominated for my position
and are very grateful for that opportunity, it took a lot
of pressure off having to search for a position.
- What other career goals or aspirations do you
have?
To own my own business and run events and or step into a
role as Creative Director.
- What other initiatives have you taken to help
your career?
I have been learning a lot from the design half of the team
and watching how they carefully put together their side
of the events we run to create wonderful masterpieces! Just
asking a lot of questions can help answer so many enquires
you may have and it helps you understand where you really
want to go in your career.
