| Lucienne Solomons
Graduate, Advanced Diploma of Business (Marketing) major in Event Management
Lucienne's thoughts on her time at APM are below:
- What did you enjoy about the course you studied?
The friendly lecturers, variety of subjects covered, industry experience, small classes which meant that we became a close knit group of friends, fun and innovative assessments with the opportunity to work both in groups as well as individually.
- What was your goal when you enrolled at APM?
To establish a firm understanding of the concept of marketing as well as the event industry, associate myself with a group of motivated, supportive and loyal friends all of which shared a passion for the industry.
- Describe what your current role involves?
My job is split into two roles - community which looks after the moderation of the hotel as well as production which requires me to compose competitions, miniature games, run events for celebrations and campaigns run in the hotel such Mother's Day, Karaoke nights, Valentine's Day, Love or Hate Discos, Juicy Fruit Online Beach Party activities and many other exciting and bizarre concepts.
- How did you find your current job?
www.seek.com.au
- What were the most successful aspects of the APM
courses?
Endless volunteer opportunities in a variety of fields such as Fashion Week, charity events, private functions and many more. The ability to apply the knowledge and skills we were learning in class and use them in the roles given to us at these events.
- What advice do you have for other APM students
hoping to break into your field?
Don't be afraid to be seen and heard. Although you may start at the bottom, there is only one way to go from there! You will no doubt be faced with situations in which things may not go the way you had planned but don't despair as things can only improve.
- Did you find it easy or hard to get a job after
you graduated?
I used a variety of sources to find a job. I found both the APM website along with Seek to be the most effective and reliable place to find any positions that may be available. It was a difficult process to find a job that I thought would be most suitable for me, but in the end my search definitely prevailed!
- What other career goals or aspirations do you
have?
I am constantly seeking the opportunity to grow and learn new skills and knowledge both in the event industry as well as continue to embark in any further study I stumble upon in order to improve my qualifications in the event industry.
- What other initiatives have you taken to help
your career?
As I am required to work on both the community and production side I am currently looking into the production of sites, developing concepts, understanding our target market etc. I also work alongside a graphic designer, so I am also trying to grasp the concept of graphic design. It is an endless process of asking questions, receiving feedback as well as constructive criticism and putting all of those comments into action.
