Nathalie Gibson
Graduate, Diploma of Business (Marketing) major in Event Management, Diploma of Business (Marketing) major in Sport Marketing and currently studying a Diploma of Public Relations at APM also.

Nathalie’s thoughts on her time at APM are below:

  1. What made you choose to study at APM?

The courses and location but also the subjects relating to my industry.

  2. What were you doing previously to studying at APM?

    Rugby Sponsorship Coordinator at IMG.

  3. What did you enjoy about the course you studied?

Meeting new people who were interested in the same areas of business as me.

  4. What was your goal when you enrolled at APM?

Looking back, originally I came to APM to gain further theory and skills in the sports marketing industry. More recently I have come back to APM to make the next step in my career.

  5. What is your current job title, company name and job description?

Merchandise Coordinator – Retail for Tennis Australia, based in Melbourne working primarily on the Australian Open.

  6. Describe what your current role involves?

Coordinating all retail areas on site during the event as well as the retail trade show and online shop. It is a varied role that incorporates a lot of event work as well as logistics and operations.

  7. How did you find your current job?

It was advertised on seek and I was looking for jobs in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane as I was looking for a change.

  8. What were the most successful aspects of the APM courses?

The networking with other people working/interested in the industry and gaining the theory and skills to further develop my career.

  9. What advice do you have for other APM students hoping to break into your field?

Don’t underestimate the power of networking! And keeping in contact with people at companies that you have worked for.

  10. Did you find it easy or hard to get a job after you graduated?

After I graduated I transferred with my company overseas to work on Wimbledon and my course in Sports Marketing gave me extra confidence in certain areas that I had been previously lacking.

  11. What other career goals or aspirations do you have?

To gain a management role where my skills in sponsorship, events, marketing and PR can be challenged within a large company.

  12. What other initiatives have you taken to help your career?

I completed a two day brand essentials course at APM last year, I’ve organised networking events for current and past clients and customers. The best initiative I took was risking working overseas as there are more opportunities for development in London and Europe.
