Graduate, Diploma of Business (Marketing) major
in Event Management
Rebecca’s thoughts on her time at APM are below:
- What made you choose to study at APM?
A friend had been to the college the year before and loved
it.
- What were you doing previously to studying at
APM?
I was working for Triple M in their promotions
team and before that I managed a pub for two years.
- What did you enjoy about the course you studied?
Learning new things and activating my brain again after
so long. I enjoyed getting to know everyone in the class
and the presenting we had to do. I love getting up in front
of people.
- What was your goal when you enrolled at APM?
My goal was to learn as much as I could about the events
industry and hopefully score a job in the field when I was
done.
- What is your current job title, company name and
job description?
Up until recently I was National Multimedia Promotions Co-ordinator
for Triple M. I took care of any online promotions that
are happening in the station nationally and I managed a
team of five co-ordinators spread across Australia. I have
just been promoted to Events Co-ordinator of the Austereo
Network Sydney. This job involves looking after all station
events for 2DAY FM and Triple M. It also means I am managing
both the stations street teams, Black Thunders and Street
Freqs.
- How did you find your current job?
It was advertised internally.
- What were the most successful aspects of the APM
course?
I felt most satisfied with the course when I scored a HD
grade. I received a few of those and it was nice to see
them on my final transcript. It actually proves that I learnt
as much as I possibly could in that class.

- What advice do you have for other APM students
hoping to break into your field?
I guess if you want to work in events then you have to be
willing to start at the bottom. It is a very competitive
industry and good events jobs don’t come around all
the time. You have to be willing to put in the hard yards
and then hopefully someone will notice all your effort and
reward you. It has taken me three years of working my way
up the ladder at Austereo to finally get the break I want.
- Did you find it easy or hard to get a job after
you graduated?
I was already working for a great company so even though
I wasn’t in events, I didn’t ever really want
to leave. I had the feelers out for about 6 months looking
for a job in events but I soon realised that they hardly
ever come around. I was just really lucky that a turn of
events in the promotions team here, left an opening and
I stuck my hand up right away.
- What other career goals or aspirations do you
have?
My love is sport so ideally I would love to get into sporting
events and perhaps manage an event such as the NRL Grand
Final. That would be my dream.
- What other initiatives have you taken to help
your career?
I guess just hanging in there and not giving up!
